Locum GP

Many doctors who have completed their work as a GP registrar will work as a self employed locum before later, perhaps, joining a practice as a partner.

Some will work on a full-time basis; others may work part-time to allow them to carry out other work or other activities.

If you have previously worked in an employed capacity the move to self-employment can be confusing as far as dealing with HMRC ( Inland Revenue) is concerned.

What can we do

• Review your position to date to ensure that all available tax relief has been claimed and tax has not been overpaid,
• Deal with the submission of registration forms to HMRC to ensure that penalties are not incurred. HMRC need to be notified within three months of your starting self-employment and so it is important to involve us as early as possible.
• Deal with the forms regarding payment of class 2 national insurance.
• Advise you on the records you need to keep.
• Advise you of the expenses which you can claim to set against income in calculating your tax liability,
• Advise on the procedure for paying superannuation contributions and dealing with GP SOLO forms.
• At the end of each year we will prepare your accounts and your Tax Return and advise you of your tax liability well in advance of its payment date.
